More about the banknote

The Hungarian Parliament Building

It was built over 17 years at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries based on the plans of Imre Steindl. The construction contributed to the country’s economic upswing, as there was an express intention that the building has to be from Hungarian construction materials and by the work of domestic industrialists and manufacturers.

The building is completely symmetrical, in the center is the Copula Hall, where the Holy Crown is also kept, and the decorative staircase. On one side of the copula is the Assembly Hall of the House of Representatives, and on the other, the hall of the House of Lords. The rooms are identical in size and design, thus indicating the equality of the two houses. Today, the House of Representatives’ meeting room is in active use, and interested visitors can visit the replica of the Assembly Hall.

The building is not only special in terms of its dimensions and appearance, but it was equipped with the most modern technical innovations. Its heating and cooling system was the most modern in Europe, which after some renovation still works excellently today.
